The Friends of Shanklin Theatre have donated and installed a Defibrillator for the Theatre on this the 80th Anniversary of the building being opened as a Theatre.
The Defibrillator is a Cardiac Science G3 Automated External Defibrillator. This comes with two sets of pads, a battery, carry case, rescue ready pack, manual and signage for the Theatre.
FOST Chair, Peter Coleman said “We are delighted to add to the growing number of devices available in Shanklin, and especially to cover all the different groups in the community and tourists who use our building both for shows and during the day time activities”.
“Whilst anyone will be able to take the defibrillator and use it in an emergency, we are continuing our programme of training our volunteers in first aid and resuscitation as befits the premier theatre on the south coast of the Island.”
Louise Walker, NHS Ambulance Community Training Manager said
“The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service completely supports Shanklin Theatre’s decision to purchase a defibrillator, the theatre has worked incredibly hard to raise the funds and their determination and enthusiasm is commendable.
“Cardiac Arrest is a time critical event, it is so important that members of the public recognise what is happening and phone for an Ambulance immediately. We also urge more Island people to invest in a defibrillator in their place of work or leisure, the cost of this piece of kit really doesn’t compare to a friend or loved one’s life. In the event of a cardiac arrest the defibrillator won’t deliver a shock to the patient that doesn’t require defibrillation, it could just save a life that needs to be saved.”
The pack was delivered to us at the Theatre this morning and has been placed on the rear wall of the Sound & Lighting booth in the main Auditorium.
This is yet another example of the valued support the Friends continue to give to the Trust and is much appreciated.
