When the Trust took over Shanklin Theatre surveyors’ reports undertaken on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council suggested that remedial work to the tune of £2,500,000 was required to make the building fit for purpose. It is the Directors’ view that this projection was excessive and probably inflated to support the case of Council Officers for demolishing the Theatre, however there is still a lot of work to do.
To date we have mended the roof, replaced the seats with ones that meet modern fire safety regulations, installed appropriate fire warning sensors and an up to date alarm and emergency light system. We have built a permanent bar, replaced dangerously worn floor coverings, and decorated the changing rooms, the old Mayor’s Parlour/Board Room and the Green Room.
Our next big project is to repair/replace the windows in line with the originals. Can you help? You can make a donation to the Window Fund online, and if you pay UK Income Tax you can make it worth more by Gift Aiding it. Click here to donate today.
