Co-op Causes 2019-2020

Dear theatre supporter.

We have some great news from our friends at the Co-op Landguard Road store.

Thanks to our Treasurer; Peter Frankling, Shanklin Theatre has been chosen to benefit from the next round of the Co-op Local Community Fund to upgrade and renovate the theatre Bar area. The funding round will open on the 27th October 2019 and close on the 24th October 2020. During this funding phase, Co-op Members will be able to choose Shanklin Theatre as their local cause. Every time a Co-op member buys selected own-brand products and services, 1% of the money they spend goes to local causes in our local community.

The total amount raised by the Shanklin Co-op shoppers using their membership cards during 2017-2018 was a staggering £17,140.57 for the three local charities at that time. These were: Daisy Chains IW Children’s Charity – Rylstone Chalet Restoration – and the Friends of Shanklin Theatre Window Restoration.

About our cause:
We are a community theatre providing a wide variety of shows and activities to the community of the Isle of Wight. The Shanklin Theatre has played a central role within the cultural life of the Isle of Wight and never more than today. In addition to our full and varied show programme, we are also home to the ‘First Act’ group, a theatre group for people with learning difficulties. As well as the multinational groups that come to our theatre each year, we play host to the Isle of Wight Drama festival. We are additionally host to Spotlight IOW Ltd, an Island based company who have been providing top quality entertainment since 2001.

How does our cause brings people in the community together?

During the show interval, usually between the two halves of a show, the bar will provide a pleasant, comfortable area for relaxation and social interaction. The ‘First Act’ group, use the bar area as a rehearsal and tuition space, for people with learning difficulties on a weekly basis. The renovation of the bar area environment and soft furnishings will improve their comfort and overal experience.

So please, encourage your friends and family to become a Co-op Member and help raise funds for our local community causes. They can join online at and support the cause here:

Thank you for your continued support.

Michael Beston – October 2019.
