Following the recent installation of Air Conditioning units in the Balcony (very well received in this hot weather!), we have now completed the fitting of hand rails to assist those audience members who have some difficulty in climbing up and down stairs without aid. This is another piece of vital work we have had to undertake in our quest to make the whole building more safe and comfortable – I find it quite astonishing it was never carried out when the Theatre was under the control of the local County Council!
We are extremely grateful to the mercurial John Steege, Theatre Maintenance Supervisor, and his noble assistant, the multi-talented Roy Coleman, who have spent a considerable amount of their valuable time in the production of these rails, the final result being a huge credit to their skill and commitment.
The photos show John and Roy happily applying the finishing touches to the installation earlier this week. I am sure the hand rails will be very well received by our patrons.
