Message from our Trust Chairman Chris Quirk on the Chamber of Commerce Business Awards for Excellence 2014
Shanklin Theatre was delighted to receive the Chamber’s Social Investment Award sponsored by Wightlink. Three representatives of the Theatre attended to receive the awards, Chris Quirk representing the Trust, Mike Beston representing the Friends, and Peter Stockman representing the Board of the Theatre.
The Theatre was one of the first significant Capital Asset Transfers from the Isle of Wight Council to the Community, and has shown that it is possible for a community theatre to balance a high quality commercial programme with extensive community access.
The basis of our success is in reality our people working as a series of very effective teams; our dedicated staff, committed volunteers and talented local performers, led by a very effective Managing Director, and directed by competent Boards, all sharing a vision for a successful Theatre in Shanklin, and working hard to achieve that vision.
It was very encouraging that our team approach was also recognised with a ‘highly commended’ for the Hovertravel sponsored Team Development Award.
