Tribute to Derry Derbyshire

Derry Derbyshire was the licensee of the Crab Inn in Shanklin Old Village for nearly twenty five years, but tragically died on holiday in Turkey in 2014.

The memory of Derry, a great character and a wonderful supporter of the Theatre, will live on through a rather unique legacy arranged by his wife Tina, son James and the whole family who all have close connections both on the stage, and with support behind the scenes to the Theatre.

All the tributes and contributions in his memory were donated to the ‘Friends of Shanklin Theatre’ and reached a staggering £960.15. Following discussion the ‘Friends’ agreed with Chris Gardner, the Theatre’s professional Sound and Light man to provide the latest specialist Hypermoves lighting for the theatre stage, enabling the memory of Derry to live on.

The next time you visit the Theatre and you see the lighting on the stage dancing, I’m sure you will think ‘Good old Derry’.
